چکیده

Knowledge organisation plays an important role in building a knowledge-based product design blackboard system. Well-organised knowledge sources will facilitate the effectiveness and efficiency of communication and data exchange in a blackboard system. In a previous investigation, an approach for constructing blackboard systems for product design using a non-directed graph decomposition algorithm was proposed. In this paper, the relationship between graph decomposition and the resultant blackboard system is further studied. A case study of a number of hypothetical blackboard systems that comprise different knowledge organisations is provided. q 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Repair Service and Support

The primary purpose of this paper is to discuss the design and implementation of an automated help desk application called “Remote Expert System To Optimize Repair Efficiency” (RESTORE) currently deployed in the IBM Corporation at Rochester, Minnesota. It was designed in 1992 mainly to enhance the support of AS/400 business computer systems. In order to familiarize those readers with the topics...

A Control Model for Distributed Blackboard Architecture Based on Task Structures

Knowledge Based Real-Time Systems for intelligent patient monitoring must present the following characteristics: (a) reactivity and opportunism compatible with goal directed control, (b) domain independent task structures, (c) heterogeneous problemsolving methods, and (d) temporal reasoning. Conventional architectures present these characteristics in a separated way. To build a system that pres...

OPTIMAL DECOMPOSITION OF FINITE ELEMENT MESHES VIA K-MEDIAN METHODOLOGY AND DIFFERENT METAHEURISTICS

In this paper the performance of four well-known metaheuristics consisting of Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Biogeographic Based Optimization (BBO), Harmony Search (HS) and Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) are investigated on optimal domain decomposition for parallel computing. A clique graph is used for transforming the connectivity of a finite element model (FEM) into that of the cor...

A Programming Environment for Distributed Applications Design in Artificial Intelligence

Complex applications in Artificial Intelligence need a multiple representation of knowledge and tasks, in term of abstraction levels and points of view. The integration of numerous resources (knowledge-based systems, real-time systems, data bases ...), often geographically distributed on different machines connected into a network, is moreover a necessity to develop real scale systems. Distribu...

1 Design and Analysis Tools for Concurrent Blackboard Systems

The blackboard is a centralized global data structure, often partitioned in a hierarchical manner, used to represent the problem domain. The blackboard is also used to allow inter-knowledge source communication and acts as a shared memory visible to all of the knowledge sources. A knowledge source is a highly specialized, highly independent process that takes inputs from the blackboard data str...
